To My Readers:
This book is comprised of three short stories which are all based on true events. I tracked these stories from start to finish using news paper articles, written by reporters that were on the scene at the time of these events, along with other historical documents.
In this book you, the reader, will discover that the life of an actual train robber was not nearly as glamorous as Hollywood has portrayed in movies over the years.
The first story is about a train robbery that took place in Arizona in the late 1890’s. The facts presented are accompanied by newspaper articles that portray the dastardly deed and the subsequent pursuit of the robbers.
The second story is about a robbery that took place just two weeks after the one in the first story. Unbeknownst at the time, the reader will discover that both robberies were, in fact, related.
The third story relates to a federal law passed in the late 1800’s making assault on a railroad a crime punishable by death. The law was really never enforced to the fullest extent except in one case, the US Government versus Thomas “Blackjack” Ketchum. Ketchum was tried in 1901 for the crime and was found guilty, thus becoming the first and only outlaw in history to be hung for Assault on a Train.
