• The Power Affair

This is the story of the last gunfight and manhunt that occurred here in Arizona in 1918 just after Arizona became a state on February 14th 1912. I put the reader in the story so they can understand how life was at that time and the circumstances that caused this senseless shootout that took the lives of three lawmen and one miner. The story is based on my research, newspaper articles, a book written by one of the miner’s sons, John Power and then a rebuttle book that was written by Darvil McBride the youngest surviving son of the Graham County Sheriff, R.F.McBride. The evidence is presented along with the interaction of all parties involved in the gunfight before and after the shootout. The reader will be able to make their own conclusion as to whether it was murder or a tragedy and whether John Power, Tom Power and Big Tom Sisson committed murder or self defense. The trial took 30 minutes and the plaintiffs were found guilty and sentenced to life in prison only because the death penalty had been abolished when we became a state. This is an powerful story of survival and how the two brothers found solitude in prison where they both spend over forty years. The longest sentences served in Arizona history.
